Inside of an independent mind

The survival of the record industry in the 21st century brought some serious issues to be dealt with. Questioning the very core of how to sell, distribute, present and make the music available to the fast and growing culture of consumers, regardless the age. It became the struggle for survival. Great labels went down because they couldn’t maintain the level needed to stay competent, solvent. Not even mentioning the position of bands/artists in this turmoil. Sales are down, people less and less go to the shows, supporting directly the artists, buying their merchandise or God forbid, their physical releases.

vinyl rules

New age demands new rules which leads to a whole different game/role-playing. The power of various online music and stream services is growing by the day. Social networking in combination with smart phone application development made possible to a huge amount of worldwide youth to be able of having their favourite music at any given time. Vinyl format made it’s come back and is definitely here to stay. CD’s still have some value, but in the ocean of pop stars, one hit wonders and teen heroes it’s easier to give a dollar for a single by downloading it than actually buy the entire album. Who listens to albums anyway?! Well, I do. It takes guts, time, nerves and strong dedication to survive as a musician. It became a sort of luxury to even play an instrument. That’s why is necessary to support your favourite artist in any way possible. I stumbled upon an article which gives us , at least to some extent, an inside look of how to operate an independent record label. You can go here and read it. After all the best music is to be found in places like this.  Support your scene!!!

Australasia – Sin4tr4

Out of Italy, rarely known for black metal activities, well at least to my knowledge, comes this very interesting piece of music. The name is AUSTRALASIA and they’ve come to take you on a different ride than you used to. You thought that black couldn’t be beautiful and interesting. You were dead wrong. This interesting two-piece formation proved it with their first record ”Sin4tr4”. Golden Morning Sounds released this fine debut.  I don’t even know what does it mean but that’s irrelevant. They are not your typical black metal band [duo]. There is more post rock/soundscapes/shoegaze moments mixed up with blast beats and killer riffing than one can predict. Also being an instrumental band, this would be very interesting to see live on stage. Interesting mix of music melt into pot of ethereal guitars, occasional woman chant, dreamlike synths and an atmosphere as you were in some kind of western movie taking place on an ancient planet in Space.

The production is very clean , especially on the mellow parts, but there is the lack of the same when riffs themselves start to plunder. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing though, it’s only a matter of taste. Clearly these boys are very talented and not afraid to experiment with other genres. Influenced by Red Sparowes, Pelican, Mono, Isis and 35007, the Italians also show on display a soft spot for Ennio Morricone’s music which sways throughout the whole album. I think 7 songs, cranking in little over 20 minutes cannot be called an EP release. AUSTRALASIA have managed to carve the path and are on the verge of creating something of their own. Post/black/gaze anyone?!

Josh Graham leaves Neurosis

Read the full statement from the band members and Josh himself. We wish him luck and many new, exciting adventures.Text was taken from http://officialneurosis.blogspot.com/2012/11/neurosis-begins-new-chapter.html

As of today, after much thought and discussion, visual projections as we have presented them over the last 20 years will no longer be part of Neurosis live shows. We are going to begin the process of reinventing our live presentation. This process will begin at zero, allowing the music to speak for itself and lead us where it may. Whatever form or however long this may take is unknown. This also signals a parting of the ways with our visual artist of the last twelve years, Josh Graham. Read the rest of this entry

”Bend To Transcend” coming to you LIVE!

Renegade outfit called COJONES have a new record out!

It’s called ”Bend To Transcend” and will smash your face in. These Croatian monsters of heavy riffing and epic choruses are set to conquer your ears once again. Three years after their ”Sunrise” debut they made a step up in crafting their music. Slightly moving away from the ”desert/stoner” genre, ”Bend To Transcend” is a full blood rock record. Aforementioned influences are still present, but wrapped up in totally contagious melodies. You will be sitting tight and listening closely throughout the whole record.
